Defence of Human Rights and Public Service Trust Pakistan (DHRPSTP)
Amina Masood Janjua is one of the pioneer activists in Pakistan serving as the chairperson of victim-based Rights group Defence of Human Rights and Public Service Trust Pakistan (DHRPSTP). Her endeavor began soon after the heart-shattering and downright outrageous enforced disappearance of her husband on the 30th of July in 2005. Apart from providing legal assistance to the Families of Enforced Disappearances, designing campaigns, carrying out national and international lobbying, she also takes care of the psychosocial counselling of the victims of torture. Her work also includes providing subsistence to some of the bereaved families of the disappeared. Frequent efforts are also made on her part towards the eradication of torture from detention centers and prisons. Being able to bring the loved ones home is a joy which keeps her going in spite of her personal ordeal. Out of 2900 cases of the Disappeared 749 had been pleaded in the Supreme Court by herself, one third of the total have been traced or released. In May 2022 She was appointed Amicus Curiae for the cases of the disappeared in the Islamabad High Court. She has given recommendations to the Federal Government for ending Enforced Disappearances. Her resolve is to constantly struggle and put an end to the practice of Enforced Disappearances not just in Pakistan but in the whole world.
Amina’s organization is regularly involved in the United Nations mechanisms for lobbying and redress. DHRPSTP is part of the civil society initiatives in the country and of bigger international networks for Human Rights, Truth and Justice; like AFAD, ICAED and FORUM-ASIA.
Representing all those affected, she has made frequent appearances in local and international media apart from contributing to both Urdu and English newspapers as a column writer.
