CALL FOR PAPERS

“Constitutionalism in Developing Democracies”: Annual Conference Socio-Legal Studies Association 26-28 March 2024, University of Portsmouth.

The University of Portsmouth will host the annual conference of the Socio-Legal Studies Association 26-28 March 2024. Convener GSN Dr Nauman Reayat is convening the stream titled “Constitutionalism in Developing Democracies” during the conference.  Please see call for papers and/or posters here. Feel free to circulate to staff and student. The submission of abstracts should be made via Oxford Abstracts or CALLS | SLSA 2024 . The call for paper and poster abstracts closes on 12 January 2024 at 18:00. Submissions from postgraduate researchers and disciplines outside law touching upon the areas provided in the call are welcomed.  

The stream received 32 submissions in the SLSA Annual Conference 2022 (York). The submissions increased to 52 excluding 10 late submissions in the SLSA Annual Conference 2023 (Ulster).

List of scholarships for PGR applicants at the University of Leicester

  1. CSSAH fee waiver scholarship (Jan 24 entry) – School of law has been allocated 3 home fee waivers. Deadline for application is 16 November. https://le.ac.uk/study/researchdegrees/funded-opportunities/cssah-fee-waivers
  2. Midlands4Cities Open Doctoral Awards 2024 (Sep 24 entry) – Scholarships include home fee waivers and UKRI rate maintenance grants.   3. Chinese Scholarship Council and University of Leicester joint PhD scholarships (Sep 24 entry) – These scholarships are only available to candidates who are citizens of the People’s Republic of China.   4. Wellcome Trust DTP (Sep 24 entry) – Candidates are encouraged to apply for the following two research projects T4/67 Examining the legal, ethical and social implications of whole genome sequencing at birth (Word, 25 kb) and/or T4/75 Examining the legal, ethical and social implications of advanced forensic genetic technologies (word doc 25KB) Scholarship includes fee waiver and a generous stipend.   5. School of law GTA scholarships (Sep 24 entry) – School of law is in the process of being allocated 3 GTA scholarships, 2 of them would have full overseas fee waivers along with a maintenance grant while the other would be home fee waiver and maintenance. More information will be released soon, the deadline for application will be in early spring.
  6. Minority ethnic PGR GTA scholarship (Sep 24 entry) – The college will soon announce 1 minority ethnic GTA scholarship for PGRs, it will cover home fees and a maintenance grant. The deadline for the application will be sometime in March 2024. All scholarships are quite competitive, applicants have more chance of success if they are in contact with their prospective supervisors before the application and have received feedback on it
