THE FEEDBACK OF HONOURABLE JUDGE DOCTOR OF LAW, PROFESSOR VITALIY URKEVYCH, SECRETARY, THE GRAND CHAMBER OF THE SUPREME COURT OF UKRAINE ON THE GLOBAL SOUTH NETWORK INITIATIVES
“It was a privilege to deliver a lecture titled “The Supreme Court’s practice in cases related to the war in Ukraine” as part of the Global South Network’s esteemed guest lecture series. The topic of judicial responses to the unprecedented challenges posed by the russian agression is of crucial importance not only to Ukraine but also to any nation facing conflict. In the international context, I believe this experience has valuable lessons for other countries.
The independence of the judiciary remains essential, particularly in times of war, to hold other branches of government accountable and ensure that justice prevails. Public support and trust in the judiciary are critical for its effectiveness, and while the Supreme Court of Ukraine has seen significant public confidence, there is always room for growth, particularly through transparency and consistent application of the rule of law.
The Global South Network’s initiative allows for a deeper understanding of the legal and institutional challenges faced by Ukraine, offering key insights to global audiences.
Thank you for the opportunity to share these reflections.“
